The Sheltered Water SUP Coach Award is designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddleboard skills on slow moving rivers and open water up to 200m from shore.

About the course
The Coach Awards look at the Who, How, What and Where of Coaching Paddlesport with the training split into 2 parts:
The Core Coach is a 2-day multi-discipline training. With classroom and practical water-based session it focuses on:
Who are we coaching, identifying learner needs and how we can tailor our delivery to them.
How do we coach, introducing a wide range of coaching models, delivery styles and decision making to support our learners.
This is followed this 2-day Discipline Specific Training Modules that focus on:
What are the specific skills and techniques our learners will need on a Paddleboard;
How do we teach these and;
Where are we coaching, taking into account specific environments and the constraints we need to consider.
The Sheltered Water Stand-Up Paddleboard Discipline Specific Training looks at the fundamental coaching elements as well as the craft specifics of Paddleboards on sheltered water up to 200m from shore, gentle flows and winds up to force 3. This is a great course for Club and industry coaches.

Prior to attending the course you need to ensure you have the following:
Current British Canoeing “On the Water” Member;
Have attended at Core Coach Training.
We can only except over 18s on this course
There is no need to register for Coach Award Training

Ensure you have current British Canoeing “On the Water” Membership (or other Home Nation Governing Body) https://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/membership/join-us-online-here
To help you judge where you are in your experience it is worth using the BCAB Coach Analysis tool.
Ensure your Personal Paddling and Rescue Skills are at a good level in your chosen craft(s). There are no specific personal performance award requirements but the Explore or Personal Performance awards are a good benchmark.

The Coach Award E-Learning modules are available once you have registered for the Award. They are a good revision for the topics covered in the Core Coach.
For the course you will need Personal Paddling Kit appropriate for the time of year and emersion and any Safety and rescue kit you would normally carry. Including a Buoyancy aid/PFD and Helmet.
You can bring your own board if you would like or you can use on of our RedPaddleCo Boards.
Rock River Coaching can provide Boards, paddles, PFDs, and Paddling kit by prior arrangement.

This is a physically intensive course with significant time spent in the water, however we endeavour to make our courses as inclusive as possible.
