Stand Up Paddleboard is the fastest growing watersport in the UK.

The Sheltered water Stand-Up Paddleboarding Award is aimed giving you the confidence to plan and undertake your own Paddleboarding adventures on Sheltered Water. This includes slow flowing river, Small lakes or similar where you are never more than 200m from a safe landing point and in winds of no more than Force 3.

The award course is a combination of training, coaching and ongoing informal assessment. Throughout the course we will be looking at your skills and knowledge, helping to develop them to the point where you confidently meet the criteria of the Sheltered Water SUP Award.

If you are already a British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor, the SUP Award combined with the British Canoeing Stand-Up Paddleboarding Support Module gives you everything you need to start running Safe, Enjoyable and Engaging taster session on Paddleboard.

Pre-Requisites for the course 

Over 14 years of age at the time of the course (Under 18’s will require Parent/Guardian Consent). 

Some paddleboarding experience is necessary. 

We strongly recommend you Hold British Canoeing On-The-Water Membership 

Course Fees are included 

Timings 

Arrive from a 09:00 start 

Expected end time is 16:30. 

 

Arrival/meeting Point 

Walton Bridge Car Park, Height restriction and parking fee required

 

Food and Drink 

Please Bring your own food and drink for the day. 

Equipment 

Please bring your own paddling clothing and PPE appropriate for the conditions and spending all day out on the water and getting wet. 

Equipment to be self-sufficient on a trip of a full day. I.e. Drybag with Spare warm clothing, mobile in waterproof case, Sun-cream etc. 

You can use your own Paddleboard, however if you need or want to use one of our Red Paddle Co boards or other kit please let me know well before the course. 

For the course 

On the day of the course please bring with you: 

  • Personal Paddling Kit appropriate for the time of year and immersion and any personal or Safety and rescue kit you would normally carry. 

  • Warm Jacket or Dryrobe. 

  • Paper and Pens 

  • Lunch and snacks  

Assessment of the Award. 

The format will be a holistic informal assessment of your skills throughout the day. We will be working toward confidently meeting the criteria of the Sheltered Water SUP Award. If at the end of the day you are not at the standard of the Award we will give you a clear action plan as to how to reach the level required.  

  • British Canoeing certification fees are included in the course cost. 

  • Reassessment is not included in the course cost.
