The British Canoeing Awarding Body Open Water Canoe Leader Award is for people wanting to lead Safe, Enjoyable and Engaging trips on Moderate Open Water (Up to 500m from shore and winds up to force 4) in Canoe.
This 2-day training course is aimed at experienced open canoeists, it looks at all aspects of leadership that are assessed on the BCAB Open Water Canoe Leader award including:
Personal Solo Canoe Skills on open water,
Participant Focused Leadership,
Safety, Rescue and incident management,
Underpinning Background Knowledge, Understanding and Experience to prepare candidates for assessment.
The cost includes the course, launching fees for Chichester Harbour, Paddle UK credential fees and use of Rock River Coaching’s Boats. We endeavour to tailor the programme to candidates previous experience and the conditions and venues on the day. You need to be a confident flat water canoe paddler with experience of paddling in windy conditions, whilst there is no award pre-requisite, the Progressive Canoe Personal Performance award is a good benchmark.
The course runs 09:00-17:30 both days.
Venue and exact plan will depend on the weather.
